It's time for mustaches, chest hair and old-school electronica! |
You may have heard the name Giorgio Moroder before. The man is iconic, with his enormous sunglasses, mustache and bushy hair, and many consider him the patron saint of modern electronic music. Whatever your opinion on the matter, you can't deny the appeal of his music!
Giorgio Moroder - Chase (Midnight Express Theme)
And here's a piece from someone else with a fascinating history tied to the Midnight Express Theme. The tune is from a bona-fide 1984 movie inspired by the life of French crime legend Jacques Mesrine.
Well here's the thing: Legend has it that while Mesrine was sitting down to write his final will, fully aware that he was close to being shot down by the French police forces for his accumulated (and very violent) crimes, he played Giorgio Moroder's Midnight Express on repeat to focus his thoughts. After his death by cop, when the 1984 movie was later produced, the company attempted to obtain the rights to the song in order to play it in the related will-writing scene. They failed, and thus contacted Jean-Pierre Rusconi to try and create something with a similar vibe to the original. The tune I present here. Cool shit, no?
Jean-Pierre Rusconi - Le Testament (Mesrine Theme)
To continue with the Moroder material, here's one of his cheesier, yet catchier productions:
Giorgio Moroder - From Here to Eternity
And to top it all off, here's something...different.
Recognize the tune? You should. DJ Shadow later sampled it extensively to create his own ''Organ Donor''!
Giorgio Moroder - Tears

You can't deny the appeal of the 'statche either! ;)
